Spring Show Moving to Music Hall!

Lucca Laser Workshop

That’s right on May 12, 2018 we are moving to Music Hall for our spring show from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.! We have loved our years at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center and with their pending building changes we are using this as an opportunity to grow our spring show and bring it to the heart of our lovely city.

The holiday show reminded us how much shoppers and makers love the historic Music Hall Ballroom so this move couldn’t come at a better time! We had an AMAZING day of shopping in December and we want to flood the ballroom with makers and shoppers again and we couldn’t wait another year.

Our spring show is a great time to get ready for spring from t-shirt shopping to a new bag for sunglasses and sunscreen. You can also stock up on cards for birthdays, anniversaries and occasions just to say I LIKE YOU! Let’s not forget that May 12th is Mother’s Day weekend! Bring your mama and your mama’s mama if you are so lucky and have a fun day in the city. Washington Park will be busting with energy and you can sneak away from the hot sun as you shop local with some of the most talented makers in the Midwest.Interested in being one of those makers? Click here for more information.

Yes, it was -6 degrees when we woke up this morning so this all sounds like the best day ever right? See you May 12th!

Small Business Saturday Shopping Guide

This weekend kicks off the holiday shopping season. We know you are DYING to shop at Crafty Supermarket’s holiday market on December 2 at Music Hall but also might have a few things you want to mark off your list this weekend. An investment in your local community is more likely to stay in your local community than if you spend it in a big box store or even online from the comfort of your own home. There are some great shops around our beautiful city that will treat you right and help you find what you are looking for. Here’s our guide! Start by waking up at a respectable hour and proceed down the list.

Redtree Art Gallery and Coffee Shop

First start your morning at Redtree Gallery and Coffee Shop in Oakley, you can get your coffee fix and check out local handmade items while you do it. Relax and enjoy yourself! Ask the staff there for other shop recommendations around there. There are tons to chose from.

Tara Heilman owner of Robot Inside

Swing up to Robot Inside. Tara the owner is the nicest person ever and she offers handmade goods plus you can sign up for classes while you are at it!

Silk Road Textile

Now it’s time to stock up on supplies so you can start making yourself!  Head to Silk Road Textiles in College Hill. They have the yummiest yarn and fabric selection and you can  sign up for classes. If you need more caffeine you can refuel at College Hill Coffee. You can also stop by Fern to grab some plants to keep your house feeling alive as we head into winter.

Next you’re going to head down the hill  into Northside. In route you are going to stop off at Nvision. She offers an impressively curated collection of vintage clothing and furniture. Forget the midcentury modern remakes that are everywhere right now, she has the REAL DEAL! She also has a small selection of handmade goods too and regular art openings.

Shake It Records

It’s time  to head to Shake It Records, if you need more vintage, you can also stop at Chicken Lays and Egg on your way. Shake It is famous for their record collection but they also have an amazing book, card and gift section. As you head in, admire the handprinted store front sign as you walk in. It’s sweet!

The Hoop and Needle

Next make your way up to the Chocolate Bee where you can buy beautiful chocolate gifts made by Chocolats Latour and beeswax goods made by Bee Haven Honey.  A few doors down you’ll find The Hoop & Needle, they offer an amazing assortment of stitching supplies.  Their store front is also the BEST. If you need more vintage before you leave Northside, Casablanca has you covered!

Dojo Gelato

Ok, now it’s time to head downtown. Stop by Findlay Market for lunch at Eli’s BBQ and grab a treat from Dojo Gelato. They are a magical pair. Be sure to wander through the market before you head down to Mica 12/v. I’d like to live inside this shop. It is so well curated and just perfectly arranged. You can find a gift for every person on your list here.

Lucca Laser Workshop

Then you’ll walk a few blocks to Main Street, grab a snack at Macaron Bar before you hit Lucca Laser Workshop and Indigo Hippo! Lucca has amazing custom options as well as ready to buy pieces. Indigo Hippo offers repurposed supplies and they have a great show hanging right now featuring local artists!

Handzy Shop and Studio

Now it’s time to head over to Covington, yes technically you aren’t in Cincinnati anymore BUT this place is worth the trip away from home, Handzy is an awesome little retail shop and design studio offering a variety of handmade items. It’s all run by two BFFs. Tell them we said HI!

Manitou Candle

Last of all you need something for yourself so you can go home and relax. Head east to Manitou Candle Co., they have every scent you’ll ever want! Perfect gift for those people you love who have everything or it’s the perfect touch to make your house all cozy as you put up for feet for the night. They are also super nice peeps.

What an exhausting day! This list is absolutely not complete, we actually started out with a goal to list ten businesses but got carried away. There are tons of other local businesses to support in our awesome city of entrepreneurs and makers. Get out there but make sure you save some funds for Crafty Supermarket on December 2 at Music Hall y’all! You’ll find many of these business there and much more.

thanks again cincinnati!

Wow. Thank you to everyone who came out to shop at the spring edition of Crafty Supermarket. The day started out rainy and gloomy but ended with sunshine and lots of smiles. We still had a great turn out once the storm decided to move on and there are so many people to thank for a great day.

  • Usually we thank the shoppers first but this year we are starting with the makers who loaded in during the crazy, scary storm. We had 50+ vendors who were craft show bosses and persisted through epic rain to set up on time. The storm hit quick and hard as best illustrated by Ellebrux maker Laura Brooks walking in soaked to the bone holding her unopened poncho in her hand. That pretty much sums up how the morning went in addition to the fact that the power went out and Vintageliz was momentarily stuck in the elevator. So THANK YOU MAKERS! You are some determined maker BOSSES!
  • Thank you shoppers! The weather could have scared you away but we still had an indoor line forming through the basement floor of the Clifton Cultural Arts Center anticipating our doors opening at 11 and the stream of shoppers was steady all day.
  • Thank you A.P. Loves Designs for designing the latest Crafty Supermarket tote! It made our first shoppers and volunteers very happy! Thanks to DIY Printing for screening the bags AND for vending your first but hopefully not last Crafty Supermarket.
  • Thanks to our volunteers who helped throughout the day. We had several returning helping hands and a few new faces who rocked it through the rain to make sure our vendors and shoppers had help, food, and were well hydrated. Special thanks to Lauren and Stephanie who were there all day to help out!
  • It wouldn’t be a show without delicious food. We lost a few vendors due to weather but a huge thanks goes out to Best Thing Smokin’ who got there through the storm, waited it out and then served food all day and smiled the entire time. They are the nicest people too by the way! Big thanks to our indoor food vendors Dojo Gelato, Macaron Bar and La Terza. These four made a perfect menu for the day!
  • Big thanks to our sponsors for supporting and empowering this show and the makers we showcase. All of our sponsors are pretty rad businesses doing things to make our city even better every day.
  • Thanks to our RAD LIVE DJ Ben Davis for playing tunes during the times where we had power. When he’s not at his DJ post at Crafty Supermarket you can find him here or here.
  • Last but not least thank you to the Clifton Cultural Arts Center. You have been our spring home for 7 years. Your staff are some of the kindest people we know. This was the most trying event we’ve had with the weather and the power and the elevator but the team was so awesome and supportive the entire time. We hope you all land in a forever home soon or CPS realizes they are being jerks. No matter where you land, you’re going to keep fostering great things in the community. Thank you for that.

Now what’s next?! We are moving back to Music Hall for the holiday show on December 2, 2017 (ignore the program which said 2018, ugh). Stay tuned for vendor applications to open mid-July. YAY! If you are interested in volunteering or supporting the show in any way, shoot over an email. If you want regular updates from Crafty Supermarket, sign up for our mailing list, follow us on Instagram or like us on Facebook to keep in touch.

Here are some highlights from the show we found on the old Instagram:
