get crafty at our spring show!

Feel like getting crafty yourself? While you shop at Crafty Supermarket on Saturday, May 7, you can also try your hand at some crafts provided by local arts organizations! Here’s what you can make at the show:

Indigo Hippo — all day!

Create a glitter jar that’s like a mini snow globe! Sometimes a moment to process what you’re feeling is all you need. Watching something soothing slows down your breathing and helps your mental and emotional body reset. You can also get creative with some coloring pages — it’s your call whether to draw inside or outside the lines. Indigo Hippo will also be collecting gently used art supplies!

ArtWorks Cincinnati — all day!

You’ve seen the amazing murals that ArtWorks creates around Cincinnati. Do you have a great idea for a mural yourself? You can draw your own with coloring pages from ArtWorks!

Contemporary Arts Center — 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The education team from the Contemporary Arts Center will be on hand with custom coloring pages as well as all the makings to create your own floral crown.

Cut and Sewn — 2:30 to 6 p.m.

This Northside seamstress will be leading Learn To Sew Mini Session to show you how to sew on a button. Take back your shirts by learning the essential skill of sewing on those pesky buttons. Learn to thread your needle correctly, make a know that will last, and sew on a button that will actually stay on. Cut and Sewn will provide buttons, thread and needles along with an instructional zine with everything you need to know.

essential shopper info for our spring show

Are you super excited for the spring Crafty Supermarket show? We sure are, and so are our 50 awesome crafters, artists and designers! Here’s all the info you need to have a successful day at our craft show, including insider advice, a parking map and detailed directions.

Essentials

What: Crafty Supermarket’s Spring Show!
When:
 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016
Where: Clifton Cultural Arts Center, 3711 Clifton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45220
Cost: Free to the public!

Directions

The Clifton Cultural Arts Center in the Gaslight District is at 3711 Clifton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45220. It’s right at the corner of Clifton and McAlpin avenues. The 17, 19, 51 and 78 buses have stops within a half-mile of the CCAC. Get more details at go-metro.com.

Here are detailed Google Maps directions:

Parking

The closest parking is in the Clifton Recreation Center lot right behind the CCAC. You can also park by the Fairview German School — enter from McAlpin Avenue or from Clifton Avenue — or use the lot behind the Church of the Nazarene on Clifton Avenue. There’s also plenty of free street parking around the Clifton Gaslight neighborhood. If you’d like to take a stroll, the CCAC is only a 15-minute walk from the Ludlow business district, where there are also public parking lots. Here’s a map of where our shoppers can park:

Insider advice

  • Got a wheelchair or a stroller? There’s an elevator on the west side of the building off the driveway between the CCAC and the recreation center.
  • Want one of our 100 swag bags? Plan to arrive early! By the time the show starts at 11 a.m., we usually have a line.
  • If you arrive at the CCAC before the show opens at 11 a.m., please wait outside. People will still be setting up their displays, and things can get a little crazy in there!
  • Many of our vendors accept credit cards, but not all of them do, so we recommend bringing cash to the show. There’s no ATM on site, but there are plenty on Ludlow Avenue, about a half-mile south of the CCAC.
  • Want to shop in peace? We totally understand—some folks just don’t like crowds. If you prefer to leisurely peruse all our vendors’ wares, come in the afternoon! Things usually slow down after 3 p.m. Our vendors bring plenty of stock, so you don’t have to worry about people being sold out!
  • We love animals, but please don’t bring your dog inside the CCAC during the show unless it is a service animal!
  • If you’ve got kids in strollers, we recommend coming to the show in the afternoon. Things can get very crowded, which can be overwhelming for tots!
  • If you wanna get crafty, we’ll have free hands-on craft activities all day, provided by the Contemporary Arts Center in the first half of the show and Cut + Sewn in the afternoon, as well as Indigo Hippo and ArtWorks Cincinnati.
  • DJ Ben Davis of Bad Veins will be spinning tunes all day.
  • We’ll have six local food vendors at the show with tasty treats!

spring show vendor apps are closed!

Applications for Crafty Supermarket’s 2016 spring craft show are now closed! We will let everyone who applied know about their acceptance status by March 15.

Accepted crafters will have until April 1 to pay their table fee. If you don’t pay your table fee by April 1, we’ll offer the space to another crafter who applied before the deadline.

I missed the deadline! Can I still apply?

We get more applications for the show than we can accept, so we can’t allow any late applications out of fairness to crafters who applied before the deadline. If a spot opens up from a vendor being unable to attend the show, we select alternates from the people who applied before the deadline.

If you want to apply to be in our next show, be sure to follow us here on the website, on Facebook or via our e-newsletter. We broadcast our upcoming opportunities in all those places! Applications for our holiday show will open in July.

be a part of our spring craft show!

In addition to all the handmade vendors who are a part of our show, it takes a village to make Crafty Supermarket happen. We enlist volunteers and work with sponsors — and here’s how you can get involved:

Volunteering

At our spring show on May 7 at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center, we have a couple of opportunities for people to help out. (And when you assist us for a couple hours, you’ll get one of our famous swag bags!) Volunteers can choose to do any of the following things: help shoppers know where everything is, assist vendors who need a break, help load in at the beginning of the day or clean up at the end of the day. You can learn more and submit your availability here. We’ll get back to you a few weeks before the show with the schedule. (Note that we sometimes get more volunteer applications than we can take, but we’ll get back to you either way!)

Parnerships

We work with all kinds of local organizations who love handmade and want to help spread the word. From arts nonprofits and landmark institutions to DIY shops and enterprises, if you support the maker movement, we’d love to work with you! Learn more about partnership opportunities here and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have an idea of how we can work together!

THANKS A MILLION!

Thanks so much for coming out to the show on Saturday — we had record-breaking attendance, and our vendors really felt the love from Cincinnati! We saw more than 6,500 shoppers at Music Hall, the most we’ve ever had!

If you were one of the shoppers, we’d love to get your feedback to make Crafty Supermarket even better next year — this quick survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete.
