Screenprinting Demo at the Spring Show!

The Crafty Supermarket spring show is less than two weeks away, and the excitement is totally palpable. One new thing we’re doing this time around is hosting a live screenprinting demo by the good folks of DIY Printing! Little kids and big kids alike can try their hands at “pulling a print” between 3 and 6 p.m. the day of the show, Saturday, May 7. Bring a T-shirt to print on, or use some of our paper to make a print from one of the pre-made screens.

Not sure what the heck we’re talking about? Screenprinting is a versatile printing medium that’s both accurate and tactile. Have you seen any of the Crafty Supermarket posters (like our latest, printed by Southpaw)? Those are screenprinted! If you’ve got a little one who’s interested in learning how screenprinting works, make sure to come to the show in the afternoon. The demo area will be on the right when you enter the main hall of the Clifton Cultural Arts Center, right across from the welcome table.

send in your swag!

We’ll be giving away 125 swag bags to the first lucky shoppers of the day and our trusty volunteers. Contributing swag is a great way to show off your shop, services or event to a crowd that’s really hip. (As is sponsoring Crafty Supermarket, by the way.) If you’d like to contribute promo items for your local business or crafty enterprise, please send 125 pieces by May 1 to:

Fabricate
attn: Crafty Supermarket
4037 Hamilton Ave.
Cincinnati, OH 45223

Our previous swag bags have included coupons for local businesses, stickers from Buy Olympia, ceramic brooches, crafty magazines, scrapbooking materials, fabric, buttons, postcards and more! People line up hours ahead of the show to get a swag bag—they are that good.

Note: No pornographic, racist, sexist or vulgar materials will be used in the swag bags, and we reserve the right to refuse any materials. Keep it friendly!

thank you!

Our holiday show yesterday was a huge success—thanks to all our amazing crafters and the 2,100 shoppers who came out to see us! Our trusty volunteers were integral to making the show work—we hope you liked the swag bags! The Clifton Cultural Arts Center was bustling with activity all day, and the fun just would not quit, thanks to PROJECTMILL DJ Ben Davis.

We also have to give a shoutout to our awesome food vendors: Cafe de Wheels, Dojo Gelato, La Terza Artisan Coffee Roasterie, Sweet Peace Bakery and Picnic and Pantry. Thank you for keeping us well fed and caffeinated!

And a big thanks to our sponsors: ArtsWave, Yelp Cincinnati, BurdaStyle, North Light Craft Books, Park + Vine, fabricate, NVISION, Thunder-Sky, Inc., and the Comet.

We love all y’all!

cincinnati unchained + indie craft stores

In case you needed another reason to get a good head start on your holiday shopping this Saturday, we’ve got another one. When you come to Crafty Supermarket this Saturday (omg!), you’ll get a program with listings of all our crafters, a cut-out-and-keep craft project by Paper Acorn and a Cincinnati Unchained passport.

What do you do with the shopping passport?

  1. Get it stamped at Crafty Supermarket on Saturday!
  2. Go to seven locally owned stores (more than 50 are participating!) to fill the rest of your passport.
  3. Write your name and info on it.
  4. Drop it off at any participating store.
  5. You’ll be entered in a drawing to win one of a passel of fabulous gift baskets!

It’s like a big shopping scavenger hunt! Cincinnati Unchained is a Buy Cincy initiative to get people shopping locally. They’re coordinating the whole shebang and encouraging local shopping by coordinating special deals for Nov. 20.

And speaking of stores — two indie craft stores will be represented at Crafty Supermarket! Both of ’em will have wares from indie crafters from around the country to give you even more options for gifts!
