crafter notifications are out!

Thanks to everybody who applied to be part of Crafty Supermarkets 2011 holiday show! We are super excited about our lineup—we’ll be making it public very soon.

We sent out email notifications to all the applicants two weeks ago, but we’ve heard from quite a few folks who didn’t get the e-mail. So if you applied for the show but didn’t get a notification, please e-mail us at craftysupermarket@gmail.com. (And be sure to add us to your address book so we don’t get trapped in any spam filters!)

seeking swag for our holiday craft show!

We’ll be giving away 125 swag bags to the first lucky shoppers of the day and our trusty volunteers. Contributing swag is a great way to promote your shop, services or event to a crowd that’s really hip. (As is sponsoring Crafty Supermarket, by the way.) If you’d like to contribute promo items for your local business or crafty enterprise, please send 125 pieces by Nov. 10 to:

Fabricate
attn: Crafty Supermarket
4037 Hamilton Ave.
Cincinnati, OH 45223

(If you’re in town, feel free to drop your swag off during normal Fabricate hours in a box or bag labeled Crafty Supermarket!)

Previous swag bags have included coupons for local businesses, stickers from Buy Olympia, ceramic brooches, crafty magazines, scrapbooking materials, fabric, buttons, postcards and more! People line up hours ahead of the show to get a swag bag—they are that good.

Note: No pornographic, racist, sexist or vulgar materials will be used in the swag bags, and we reserve the right to refuse any materials. Keep it friendly!

seeking volunteers for the holiday show!

Thanks to everybody who applied to be a vendor at our holiday 2011 show! Applications are closed, and we will send out e-mail notifications to everyone by Sept. 25.

If you’re a shopper or craft fan looking for a way to help Crafty Supermarket out, we have a number of volunteer spots open for the day of the show and the night before! Being a volunteer is awesome: Not only do you get good craft karma, you get one of our prized swag bags!

Read more about what being a volunteer entails and sign up in our form here! (We can’t offer everyone who signs up to be a volunteer a spot, but we’ll get back to you with volunteer assignments by early November.)

Last day to apply!

One last poke for crafters thinking about applying for the holiday Crafty Supermarket show: We close the application form at midnight tonight — so get your act together if you’ve been meaning to apply but haven’t yet!

Get to the application and read all the details here. Applications are closed!

wanna support a new studio & store in OTR?

As you’ve read, Crafty Supermarket co-founder Alisha is starting up Smartfish Studio & Sustainable Supply, a new store and workshop in Over-the-Rhine! In preparation for opening up shop, she’s reaching out to the community in an effort she’s calling Swimming Upstream.

It’s like Kickstarter — if you make a pledge to Swimming Upstream, you get the satisfaction of helping a woman-owned small business get off the ground, and expand the local options for sustainable art and design supplies:

This design and art supply store will focus on materials, tools, and resources made in the US, produced sustainably … The space will also house a studio area for workshops and classes, and the workspace for Smartfish Footwear.

If you chip in $10, you get your name on the store wall and a photo of opening night. At higher levels, you can pick a workshop topic for the store or even name a Smartfish shoe style! Even if you can’t pitch in monetarily, you should definitely check out the grand opening of the store August 26.

Applications are open!

coming up: the city flea

Coming up this summer is a new, exciting venture that combines indie craft with flea markets and urban thrifting! It’s the City Flea, which will pop up four times in OTR over the next four months.

The City Flea vendors include a lot of folks who will be familiar to Crafty Supermarket shoppers, plus local stores, peddlers of vintage wares and delicious food items! (If you’re a seller of things and want to get involved, check out their vendor page.)

It’s gonna be going down in the parking lot in front of the Cincinnatus mural at the corner of Vine Street and Central Parkway. You can catch the City Flea on four Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. over the summer: June 4, July 9, August 6 and Sept. 3. It’s free for shoppers to attend!

Follow the City Flea on Facebook to get info on special deals and parties around the event. See you there!
