meet the clifton cultural arts center!

clifton cultural arts center

If you’ve never been to the Clifton Cultural Arts Center before, you’re in for a serious treat.

clifton cultural arts center

The CCAC occupies the old Clifton School, which was built in 1906 in the Beaux-Arts style. The center hosts art exhibits, cultural festivals and a plethora of regular classes ranging from tai chi to writing to felting.

Crafty Supermarket will be on the first floor of the CCAC, where our 50 craft vendors, DJ and food vendors will be rocking out all day on April 17. (That’s the main entrance to the right, which is on McAlpin Avenue, facing the Fairview German School.)

The CCAC is on the corner of Clifton and McAlpin avenues in the Gaslight District. Check out the CCAC site for detailed directions. There’s free parking directly behind the center, and plenty of street parking in the neighborhood.

The nearest bus stops are about a half-mile from the CCAC. Take the 17, 18, 19 or 39 bus to Ludlow Avenue at Telford, or take the 78 bus to Vine Street at Forest. Plan your trip at Go Metro.

check out our crafters!

Just posted: Our vendor list with nearly 50 fab crafters!

get noticed in our swag bags!

We’ll be giving away 100 swag bags to the first lucky shoppers of the day (and our loyal volunteers). If you’d like to contribute promotional material for your local business or crafty business, please send 100 pieces to us by April 1 WEDNESDAY APRIL 14 at:

Crafty Supermarket c/o Fabricate, 4012 Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45223.

Last year, the swag bags included things like postcards from Chronicle Books, stickers from Buy Olympia, yarn samples from misshawklet, scrapbooking materials, glitter samples, buttons, business cards, coupons and more!

Note: No pornographic, racist, sexist or vulgar materials will be used in the swag bags. We reserve the right to refuse any materials. Keep it friendly!

last chance to sell your crafts!

The deadline to be a craft vendor at our spring show is Monday, March 1 — that’s tomorrow! You can apply to be a vendor here! We’ll close the application at midnight EST (that’s the midnight between Monday and Tuesday).

And just a reminder: We’ll let everyone know about their acceptance status by March 15. Payment of the $60 vendor fee for accepted crafters is due by March 22.

earn some craft karma!

If you’re crafty but aren’t selling, or if you just like doing good, you can be a Crafty Supermarket volunteer! We need people to help out in 2-hour shifts on the day of the show (Saturday, April 17, from about 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), doing things like:

  • greeting shoppers
  • handing out swag bags & programs
  • watching tables for vendors who need to take a break
  • helping people get crafty at our DIY table

Each of our volunteers is guaranteed a swag bag full of free crafty goodies! If you’re interested in helping out, e-mail us at craftysupermarket@gmail.com. We’ll have a volunteer meeting shortly before the show to get everyone assigned and give you more details.

crafty supermarket’s spring show!

The Queen City just can’t get enough indie craft. We are overjoyed to announce Cincinnati’s second Crafty Supermarket will take place at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010. We expect to have more than 40 craft vendors, food vendors, a live DJ from PROJECTMILL, do-it-yourself craft activities and more.

Crafty Supermarket will have even more of the awesome crafts you experienced at the first show! The deadline for craft vendor applications is March 1. You can apply to be a vendor here!

We’re also seeking sponsors, volunteers and donations to make this show as awesome as possible. Check out our FAQ page for info!

thank you, thank you, thank you!

I’d say Crafty Supermarket was an amazing success! We had more than 1,000 shoppers come out the day of the show—there were even 100 people in line to get in when we finally opened our doors! (Extra thanks to the first woman in line, who showed up around 10:30 a.m. and held the door for crafters loading their stuff into the Tavern.) Needless to say, the 50 swag bags were gone within minutes of noon.

A huge thanks to all the shoppers—where the heck did you all come from? Your enthusiasm was absolutely radical.

And I’ve got to give an extra big thanks to our sponsors, who made it possible to reach out to the community and do some craft education!

But the biggest thanks goes to the crafters—you guys rocked it hard.

People kept asking when our next show was going to be. Some even suggested Crafty Supermarket should be monthly. (whoa!) We definitely want this to be an annual event, at the very least! We’re going to regroup and set up an e-mail list and get our stuff together. Stay subscribed to the blog, and you’ll be among the first to know when the next show hits.

Stay crafty!
